The third in the Gabe Wager series finds him transferred from the Organized Crime Unit to Crimes Against Persons (Homicide Section), and face-to-face with his first victim.

" . . . the patrolman read Wager the specifics of the reported death. 'The victim was found inside the conservatory bulding; a white female, age probably twenty or twenty-five. No identification.'
   'Cause of death?' Wager asked.
   "I sure as hell don't think it was suicide. The lab people are on their way and I just gave the medical examiner a call.'
   'Any indications of assault? Rape?'
   'Nope.' He smiled.
   'Was she dressed or was she naked?' Wager asked. The patrolman was making him cross. 'Did she die here or was she brought here/'
   'She was brought here--she sure was. But I don't know about her clothes.'
   'What do you mean?' Wager asked.
   'All we found was her head.'
