--Kathe Robin
Romantic Times
Award-winning author Kristin Hannah creates her most spellbinding and compelling novel yet...a passionate tale of obsession, redemption, and the magic of true love.
WAITING FOR THE MOON
She doesn't remember who she is or how she came to the mansion on the isolated Maine coast. Lost in a strange world filled with even stranger faces, Selena finds comfort in a man whose eyes reflect her own aloneness.
He is Ian Carrick, a brilliant physician turned recluse, hiding from life in the anonymity of this small sanctuary, haunted by a telepathic gift that has destroyed his desire to heal.
Selena comes to him, the only person he's ever met who is immune to his psychic powers. A mesmerizing innocent, she turns his life upside down, bringing light into the darkness and laughter into the silence. For her, he begins to believe in life again, to believe in himself. And then a mysterious figure from the past arrives, threatening to destroy their glorious love and the fantasy world they have created together....

Review:
On the craggy cliff off the coast of Maine, a young woman jumps to her death but somehow survives. At an asylum nearby, a talented surgeon fights the demons of the past and curses the "gift" he has been given since his own brush with death. Dr. Ian Carrick's gift is the ability to touch someone and see their thoughts, feel their pain, know their secrets. He has given up being a surgeon because of his unusual talent. When the woman is brought to him, he is reluctant to touch her. Her injuries seem untreatable but Ian does his best to try to save her and discovers that when he touches her nothing happens. Unable to recall who she is or where she is from, Ian calls the woman Selena. At first, he thinks she has amnesia, the brutal truth is that she has suffered some brain damage because of her suicide attempt. Selena slowly regains much of the knowledge she lost, but in some ways she is still child-like, naive and completely trusting. She thinks of Ian as God, the one who saved her. It doesn't bother her that she can't recall her past or what her real name is. Selena lives for the moment and the future, sharing her new life with the other patients in the asylum. In her simple way, she expresses herself honestly-- even if she sometimes confuses the words. Though her mind may be damaged, her spirit soars intact. To Ian, Selena's condition is a reason for disappointment. He sees her as a specimen, a patient-- someone to test and probe and write about. Gradually, he comes to see that Selena's brain damage hasn't limited her abilities to think-- or to love. She simply sees things differently than he does, and her view of the world enchants him. Despite his education and knowledge, Ian needs Selena to show him the way out of the darkness he has lived in for so long. But Selena's past threatens to destroy the love that these two kindred souls have found.Haunting! A compelling tale of a love! Kristin Hannah's writing is emotional and powerful! Her words will wrap around your heart and never let go! Waiting For The Moon is one of the most original historical romances ever! A touching tale that will be long remembered! The characters come alive and the plot is truly unique! Few authors can weave such a fascinating story as Kristin Hannah! She deserves the highest praise for showing us a world that is different but no less meaningful!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
