This text presents a theoretical framework of elementary education learning patterns and the fundamentals of music. After covering these two topics, the remainder of the text develops musical skills while describing the ways music can be integrated into the classroom through the use of singing, making and playing musical instruments, listening, dancing, and other artistic media.

Review:
"The most difficult part of teaching this course is helping and encouraging students with limited musical experience, especially in the area of singing. This textbook is very helpful because of the great number of the song, familiar and less well-known that students can use in class demonstrations and lesson planning."
"I enjoy this book because it does a nice job of balancing music fundamentals with information for the elementary educator."
"It contains wonderful songs and information from other countries, which is an immediate resource for cultural diversity."
