In Responsible Dog Ownership , Davis discusses selecting an appropriate dog, neutering, grooming and healthcare, and training. She focuses on the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Test, which is open to all dogs and serves as an educational tool for responsible dog owners. In Successful Dog Breeding , Walkowicz and Wilcox stress that by electing to breed a dog, the owner is making a commitment that lasts the lifetime of the offspring. The authors, a successful breeder and a veterinarian, realistically point out the things that can and will go wrong and emphasize that the breeder's responsibility does not end when the pups are sold.
