. . . I have tried to make my poems accessible. Above all else, these poems are a bridge between my sensibility and the reader's, a way of reaching out and making contact with those strangers who will, for a few moments, see the world from inside my head and think with my thoughts. That is a terrifying idea. Yet we poets wish for readers in the same way that all of us wish to be known by heart. The ghost of my reader sits beside me as I write and is, for me, a condition that makes writing purposeful and gratifying.
