PreS-Gr 1-These two simple stories reinforce the use of targeted sounds through repetition. Each spread features a simple sentence in large type that contains the sound, e.g., "Shelly needed new shoes" or "There is a fox in the box." In both books, clear, uncluttered photographs of young children face the parallel text. These titles are excellent replacements for Jane B. Moncure's "Sound Box Library" series (Child's World), popular in the mid-80s. However, there are 35 books in this new series devoted to consonants, consonant blends, and vowel sounds. If the expenditure necessary for the purchase of the entire set is not within your budgetary means, you would be better served by a general phonics book. Point this series out to reading specialists.-Kit Vaughan, Midlothian Middle School, VA
