A Child's Book of Prayers - Hardcover

Grade 2-5-- A well-chosen and beautifully illustrated collection of Christian prayers that come from a variety of sources from around the world and include a good balance of classic and more contemporary selections. Some touch on issues such as hunger, the environment, and homelessness, challenging readers to connect religious beliefs with concern and action. Poems are arranged by theme including morning and nighttime prayers, thanksgiving, graces, asking for help, expressing sorrow and sadness, and expressing love for God and others. The introduction suggests this is a book for families to share; it will also be useful to Sunday school teachers and others working with children in religious settings. Detailed watercolors in warm colors complement the text well and invite readers to turn the pages. There is one or more small illustration on each page and a few full-page paintings; most depict objects in nature although some are of children.
