You are playing many roles--Nurse,Cook, Cheerleader, Protector, Advocate, Maid, Cab Driver, and whatever else it takes.
Caregiving is hard because it is hard. Our goal is to help you with practical tips and coaching to ease some of the burden and stress you experience daily.
Depending on your loved one's issue--Dementia,TBI, Stroke, Parkinson's, MS, ALS, Alzheimer's, Lewy Body Dementia, Cancer, Hip Replacement, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Visual Impairment or some combination, things can and will be challenging.
All of those issues have their own specific symptoms, and they affect your loved one in a unique way. As certain issues progress, your loved one and their abilities may change month to month, day to day, or even hour to hour. As the caregiver you see and deal with it all, whether you are ready to or not.
Our mission is to provide you a foundation to help you engage and care for your loved one. The common sense suggestions and tools in this book are based on decades of proven techniques. These tools can help you engage your loved one in both leisure activities and activities of daily living and improve everyone's quality of life.
We hope you find this book useful. We encourage you to have other family members and caregivers read this to allow for consistency with approaches, verbal cues, physical assistance and modifications that produce positive results for your loved one.

Suzanne John, R.N., is a retired Registered Nurse. with over 12 years of clinical nursing experience in areas such as Cardiothoracic Surgical nursing, Medical and Cardiac Intensive Care nursing,working with ventilator-dependent patients and their families in a long-term care facility, RN Supervisor in a skilled nursing facility and as a RN providing outpatient cardiac rehab care to patients post open heart surgery or after a"heart attack".
Dawn Appler-Worsley is a highly accomplished senior care professional,author and national speaker with 26 years of expertise. She has been awarded national certifications as a Certified Activity Director, Consultant, Dementia Care Practitioner, Alzheimer's Dementia Care Trainer and Eden Alternative Associate.
