Pages are moderately tanned with noticeable foxing throughout. Slight crinkling to paper at gutters, however binding remains firm. Thumb-marking present throughout. Boards have visible edge wear with corner bumping. Moderate tanning to spine and edges with some crushing to spine ends. Water stains with marks overall.

In illustrated and decorated green cloth boards with gilt titles and extensive decorations, tipped in illustration on front panel (boards a little rubbed and rounded at spine tips and extreme corners, remarkably bright and fresh). Front free endpaper absent, and old water damage affecting the base of the half-title page and frontispiece, (not affecting text or image), frontispiece rubbed along fore-edge, else internally neat, clean, and tight with just a hint of spotting on a few early and late pages. In its original dust jacket, with tipped on illustration matching that on the book (jacket is rubbed and lightly chipped at edges and folds, with minor loss at spine ends, short flat tear running from spine head along fold). Dust jacket now protected in a Bordart-style sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.
