Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Navy blue boards with gilt lettering. Illustration in gilt of a quill pen in an ink jar with John Quincy Adams' initials. End papers have light toning and some foxing, particularly along the front paste down. The frontispiece page is heavily foxed. Some soiling to text block. Corners are sharp, but are rubbed on the bottom. Top of text block was colored blue and is light faded. There are some soil marks (mostly toning and foxing) on the fore edge and bottom of the text block. Square and tight. A very sharp book outside of the DJ. The DJ is a taupe color with red and blue writing. There are some small tears at top of the front and back panel and small chips out at the top of the spine.
