Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Fine condition photographic softcover wraps. Includes Dedication; Acknowledgments; Selected Bibliography and Index. Illustrated with sections of both black-and-white and color photographs. "In Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die, readers take an evocative journey with author Keith Elliot Greenberg as he pieces together the puzzle of James Dean's final day and its lasting impact. Greenberg travels from Dean's hometown of Fairmount, Indiana, all the way to the Cholame, California, roads that underlay the tires of the actor's infamous Porsche Spyder. Along the way, the author talks to Dean devotees, such as Pamela Des Barres - the self-professed "world's most famous groupie" who spends part of every year communing Dean's spirit in Fairmount - and to some who knew Dean personally: Marcus Winslow Jr., Deans cousin whom the actor considered a younger brother, and Lew Bracker, one of Dean's best friends. Greenberg touches upon the equally tragic fates of some of Dean's most notable contemporaries (Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo), as well as that of his passenger, German mechanic Rolf Wutherich. Taking the story back and forth in time, Greenberg gives insight into what drove Dean to live on the edge - the early loss of his mother, his relentless drive to explore for the sake of his craft. Dean once said, "Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today." He lived to experience, and the one love that compared to his love of acting was his love of racing cars. Greenberg puts the event of Dean's death in historical context, reflecting on the world Dean lived in at the time: an era after World War II, with the advent of rock and roll, and the sixties coming down the pike. The star's too-soon departure froze him as a symbol of cool, and, as proven by the 20,000 fans who return to Dean's grave each year to pay homage, a major influence on people of many generations. With fresh insider interviews, riveting storytelling, and acute attention to details - from vehicle specs to Dean's stops along the way (including one for an ominous speeding ticket) to how the news reached the world - Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die delivers a thoughtful look at James Dean's death as a historical moment and at the actor's continued life as a seminal icon."- from the rear outer cover.

Condition: new. (Bass). As the legendary bassist for the famous Stax-Volt studios in Memphis, and as one of the most influential bass players in the history of American music, Donald "Duck" Dunn (1941-2012) laid down the booty-shaking foundations to countless soul, R&B, blues, and rock recordings throughout the 1960s and '70s, providing the essential grooves for generations of listeners. Duck worked with some of the biggest artists, musicians, and songwriters of the day, including Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Elvis Presley, Isaac Hayes, and many more. And later, as a member of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's riotous Blues Brothers, Duck helped revitalize these genres via his epic bass lines and role in the hit movie. But his unparalleled 50-year career was just getting started. He went on to record and perform with the likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, and many more, until his passing in 2012. Now, in this exclusive, one-of-a-kind book, Duck's life and music are presented in full detail, with rare photos, stories, over an hour of audio demonstrations and play-alongs, gear info, and authentic, note-for-note transcriptions of nearly 60 iconic bass lines. Written by bassist and researcher Nick Rosaci, with help from Duck's family, friends, and music compatriots, this book presents a piece of history that documents not only the triumphs and tragedies of Duck's amazing life, but also uncovers the magic behind the "soul fingers" that plucked a thousand timeless grooves. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. New condition dark brown boards with gold spine lettering contained in a new condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Dedication; Preliminary Page Quote; Foreword by Richard Meltzer; Preface: Welcome to the Future; Prologue: Is That a Bustle in Your Hedgerow? or, Are You Just Pleased to See Me?; Epilogue: Lennon: The Final Comeback; Appendix One: The Classic Rock Manifesto: She Gets the Blokes Because She Smokes; and Appendix Two: The Top 100 Classic Rock Songs, 1968 - 1976; Acknowledgments; and Ending Page Quote. "Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Rush, Pink Floyd, Peter Frampton, the Beatles, the Who, Elton John (but only the good stuff), the Rolling Stones - these are the names that classic rock worships. But where are the values for which these artists fought? Where is the spirit that they once epitomized? Persuasive, incisive, and drawing blood with every keystroke. I Hate New Music is one man's crusade against everything that isn't what rock ought to be. Shamelessly retrospective and defiantly reactionary, [the book] examines the sacred cows of the past thirty years - from U2 to the White Stripes - and then slaughters them for their sins against our souls. Celebrate a time when Foreigner, Frampton, and Foghat fought for total chart dominance: when Iggy Pop's ode to smack wasn't being used to peddle cruise ship vacations; when the James Gang and Humble Pie ruled the FM airwaves; and Asia was still just a place where Led Zeppelin bootlegs of dubious quality and legality originated. Whichever side of the rock divide you fall on - if you favor Motorhead or Radiohead - veteran rock journalist Dave Thompson's highly opinionated (yet tongue firmly in cheek) manifesto is an essential read that will have you questioning why Thin Lizzy, Steve Miller, and Iron Maiden's Eddie have been grossly ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while R.E.M. gets a free pass. Even if you don't think that Clapton is God, [the book] will have you pledging allegiance to the Kiss Army .or throwing the book down in vile disgust. I Hate New Music is an un-put-downable compendium of outrageous opinion, hilarious anecdote, wild accusation, and the occasional palpable untruth. You have been warned." - from the inner front cover.

Quarto, paperback; 166pp., colour and monochrome illustrations. Remainder. New. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. The once-neglected ukulele is now a King of Pop. The current fascination with the uke has put the four-string cousin of the guitar into the hands of veteran musicians and young hipsters alike. This highly illustrated romp of a book profiles the stage, screen, and recording stars and Hawaiian royalty who pioneered the uke. This noble line of heroes paved the way for the current worldwide resurgence of the "jumping fIea." Ukulele Heroes begins with the story of how the uke came to the United States from Hawaii, inspiring a Tin Pan Alley song craze. We then meet, from the 1920s Jazz Age onward, heroes such as Ukulele Ike, Johnny Marvin, Wendell Hall, Roy Smeck, May Singhi Breen and Arthur Godfrey, followed by the British contingent led by George Formby and Tessie O'Shea - who later guested with the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Ian Whitcomb crafts the history into a racy read that brings these unsung heroes back to life. Whitcomb details his own career and appearances on the national television shows Shindig!, Where the Action ls, and The Pat Boone Show in the mid 1960s. The phenomenon of Tiny Tim followed shortly afterwards. An account is given of how today's craze came about and is built to last forever. Ukulele Heroes also features a detailed discography, filmography, and wonderful sheet music covers and photos. 9781458416544.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Included with the book and attached to the inside rear cover, in its original packing that appears never to of been opened, is a DVD video. This is not a rare book, but to find one with its dust jacket may be a rare success. Be careful when you buy a copy advertised as 'New'. Many, if not most or all, of these books are leftover books that were not sold, that have a 'remainder' mark on one of their page edges and do not include a dust jacket. I have contacted, in my own buying, sellers of 'New' books asking about a dust jacket and gotten a terse response the likes of 'if the book had a dust jacket it would be stated.' So, always contact a 'New' bookseller and ask about the dust jacket before you purchase the book. The book I have here for sale is not 'New' but looks new. It was either very well taken care of or simply left unread. The black covers are exceptionally clean, as in no soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The corners and edges show no wear. The spine ends have just a wee bit of crinkling. The page edges are perfectly clean. The book is square, not slanted, and very solidly bound from cover to cover. The inside covers and end papers are black. They are perfectly clean and unworn. The pages look terrific. In scrolling through, I didn't see any soiling at all. I didn't see any creasing, didn't see any dogeared corners. There are no markings. NO remainder mark. No bookplates. NOT ex-library. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It too is in excellent condition. It is perfectly clean. There are no tears. It is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It's imperfections are quite minor: light crinkles at the spine ends and at a couple of corners. That's it the dust jacket will be fitted with a protective cover once the photos have been scanned. Note that the book is just slightly larger than my scanner surface. Also, the book is heavier than the average book which means that the shipping cost for International buyers would exceed the quoted price. 'The first volume in a series that will be essential reading for aspiring producers and fans everywhere, Q on Producing presents the master's approach to making music. Told to and compiled by author and audio expert Bill Gibson, Quincy's observations, culled from over a year of in-depth interviews, provide unparalleled course instruction from one of the true legends of American music.' 'Quincy Jones' productions, which include the best-selling album (thriller) and single (We Are the World) of all time, havewon an unprecedented 79 Grammy nominations and 27 Grammy awards, more than any other artist.'.
