Werk: Die Kriminalromane von Elizabeth George spielen in England und stehen ganz in der Tradition der britischen Crime Ladies. Wegen ihrer feinen Figurenzeichnung und der stringenten Handlung wurde Elizabeth George auch mit Dorothy Sayers verglichen. Im Mittelpunkt der Bücher stehen Inspektor Thomas Lynley und Sergeant Barbara Havers. Doch mehr noch als beispielsweise bei Martha Grimes spielt neben der eigentlichen Krimihandlung auch das private Leben der Hauptfiguren eine wesentliche Rolle: Thomas Lynley, Lord Asherton, hat sich zwar für eine Tätigkeit bei Scotland Yard entschieden, ist aber finanziell unabhängig, da er aus einer reichen Familie stammt.
