Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Uncorrected advance bound proofs. Young adult science fiction novel, the first in a trilogy, and at the time one of the few novels for young readers in the genre to feature black characters and by a black author. The book won a Coretta Scott King honor in 1979. Very good with dusty top edge, some toning to edges of plain, green wraps, and though the spine is uncreased, there is some rolling about 1.5" in from the spine. Complete with the scarce proof jacket with cover illustration and blank flaps and rear panel. There is some wear and a few tears along top edge due to the larger trim. The publication card from Greenwillow has been attached to the underside of the jacket with tape.

Book First Edition
Octavo, cloth-backed boards. First edition. First of the three books of the "Justice Cycle" a sequence set in the future that chronicles the adventures of four children with paranormal powers who are precursors of a new race. Sequels are DUSTLAND (1980) and THE GATHERING (1981). Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-490. Publisher's review slip laid in. Top of pages lightly foxed, wrinkles in several pages, a manufacturing flaw, flattened by a professional paper conservator, a very good copy in nearly fine dust jacket with light wear at edges, mainly spine ends and corner tips. A pretty nice copy of a scarce book that when found is usually in poor condition or ex-library. (#158571).
