Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First edition. Foxing on the page edges and endpappers, thus near fine in just about fine dustwrapper with tiny nicks and a small edge stain. Account by Terres, the editor-in-chief of *Audubon*, of his "walking adventures" on Mason Farm, a wildlife reserve in North Carolina, which was bequeathed to the University of North Carolina after the death of the last of the Mason family in 1894. Inscribed by Terres in the year of publication to John Eulas Mason, ".who has roamed the Mason Farm's Woods and fields since childhood, John K. Terres, Chapel Hill, N.C., December 12, 1969." Given that the direct Mason line had died out, it's possible the recipient was a descendant of one of the slaves of the Mason Plantation.
